TD IRIE Music Festival Announce Postponement Of 2020 Festival Due To COVID-19 Pandemic

For immediate Release – Mississauga, April 14, 2020

The TD IRIE Music Festival, now in its 18th year, postponed the 2020 edition of its annual summer festival in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The City of Mississauga announced in a press release on April 8th, the cancellation of all events and spring programs up to July 3. According to the statement, this “includes City- led events and events organized by external groups that require a City permit whether at Mississauga Celebration Square, parks or other City facilities, which remain closed. At this time, no new permits will be issued.”

Mayor Bonnie Crombie in the release states: “While our festivals and events showcase the best of Mississauga and are usually the highlight of my summer, tackling the spread of COVID-19 and keeping our city healthy is our primary focus right now.”

Organizers of TD IRIE Music Festival understand and fully support the importance of social distancing and flattening the pandemic curve to reduce risk to all residents and visitors. The safety of our community is paramount.

Artistic Director, Phil Vassell, says “We will regroup and explore ways to hold TD IRIE Music Fest celebrations that respects social distance guidelines in the coming months as well as looking ahead to 2021 TD IRIE Fest celebrations where we can come together at one of the most culturally diverse festivals in Mississauga. But for now, we stay together by staying apart.”

And we thank TD Bank Group, our title sponsor; the Department of Canadian Heritage, City of Mississauga and all our festival sponsors, partners, vendors, visitors and volunteers for their continued support.”

The TD IRIE Music Festival is a free multi-day, family friendly festival showcasing some of Canada’s top reggae, soca, afrobeat, and dance artists including the dance Immersion Summer Dance Showcase; delicious tropical and international food and drink; and more.
